Return of contact sports excites Ilechukwu

Head Coach of Heartland Football Club, Fidelis Ilechukwu has expressed delight over the lift of ban on contact sports which also includes football in Nigeria.

Ilechukwu in an interview told that he is happy on the return of contact sports in the country.

“I’m so happy about the return of contact sport in Nigeria, a big thank you to the federal government and the NFF, for the effort they have made for the return of contact sport, it’s indeed a welcome development.”

The former MFM FC coach also disclosed the readiness of his team towards the coming season.

“We are starting our preparations for the season immediately, so we are expecting the management of Heartland FC to come up with the areas we have to strengthen in the team as fast as possible, knowing that time is not by our side.

“I don’t want to talk about where Heartland FC will be on the table at the end of the season because saying what is not possible is not good,” IIechukwu said.

“The most important thing is to prepare, when you have good preparation, it will serve as an advantage even when you believe or think that the things you are saying will not be possible, the confidence and the level of preparation of the players will give you the confidence to talk more.

“For now I don’t want to say anything concerning where we will be at the end of the coming season, the most important thing is for the season to start and with time we will see what the team has to offer.”

IIechukwu further pointed out that it will be better to see the league on TV this coming season as this will help in marketing players abroad.

“It will be good to watch our games live on TV in order for us to have the advantage of marketing our players to Europe.

“If this is possible, it will solve about 70% of the challenges that we have in the league today,” IIechukwu said.

Fidelis Ilechukwu has been the coach of Heartland for just one season after leaving MFM for the Owerri-based club.
