Finidi George unveiled as new super eagles coach

In a revelation that further sheds light on the details of the Super Eagles of Nigeria contract signed by Finidi George, he will earn a sum significantly less than what his former boss Jose Peseiro earned.

Recall that Jose Peseiro rejected a new contract to continue as Super Eagles of Nigeria head coach, following a massive reduction in his wages.

Following his departure, the newly appointed head coach of the Super Eagles, Finidi George will reportedly command a monthly salary of N15 million, as shared by ACLSPORTS.

Finidi George was unveiled in a ceremony which took place at the Conference Room of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, on Monday, May 13, 2024.

The new Super Eagles boss posed for shots alongside NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau alongside the Minister for Sports Owan Enoh. Despite inquiries from the media regarding his remuneration, Finidi tactfully evaded specifics, saying his focus on adding value to the team.

He however admitted his pay was less than what Peseiro received during his time as head coach of the Nigeria National team.

“I am not quite worried about earning even as much or even more than (predecessor Jose) Peseiro because what I’m getting is good enough for me at the moment. The moment I add value to what I’m here to do, the money will definitely come,” said Finidi.

However, insider information obtained by ACLSports indicates that the 53-year-old football legend is set to become the highest-paid indigenous coach in Nigerian football history. While Finidi will enjoy this substantial salary package, his five assistants are purportedly set to receive only allowances and bonuses.

With his first official match as head coach looming, Finidi will lead the Super Eagles in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, June 7. Following this encounter, the team will face Benin Republic in Abidjan just three days later, marking the beginning of a new era under Finidi’s leadership.
