Gernot Rohr says he would prefer to have Bayern Munich’s Joshua Zirkzee to play for the Super Eagles despite admitting it will not be easy to convince the young striker.

According to the Punch, Rohr is eyeing players of Nigerian descent who are playing in the German Bundesliga, with Bayern’s Zirkzee topping the list.

Zirkzee has played for the Netherlands under 15, 16, 17 and 19 teams, but is also eligible to play for Nigeria.

He enjoyed a breakthrough season with Bayern Munich as the Bavarians won their eight consecutive Bundesliga title, scoring 4 goals in 9 appearances.

The Super Eagles coach said, “Zirkzee is a preferred candidate, but it’s not that simple. We cannot and will not poach him, that must come from the player himself.”

Alongside Zirkzee, Rohr is also interested in Hoffenheim center-back Kevin Akpoguma, Hertha Berlin defender, Jordan Torunarigha and FC Augsburg’s Felix Uduokhai to play for the Eagles, but insisted it will not be easy to lure the quartet.

“There are a few others in the Bundesliga like Kevin Akpoguma in Hoffenheim, Jordan Torunarigha at Hertha BSC and Felix Uduokhai in Augsburg. But we can’t get them so easily.”

If the attempt to lure Zirkzee and others is successful, the Super Eagles of Nigeria might have a new look with other exciting young players in the team like Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Alex Iwobi, Simon Moses and the rest.
