Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze made a cameo appearance for AC Milan on Thursday night as they cruised to a resounding victory over Leece.
On Thursday night, AC Milan secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Lecce at the San Siro, moving level on points with Serie A leaders Torino. Following their dramatic win in the Derby della Madonnina against Inter Milan, the Rossoneri continued their impressive form, claiming their third consecutive league win.
The match started with Milan dominating possession, though they initially struggled to break down a resilient Lecce defence. However, their persistence paid off in the 38th minute when Álvaro Morata opened the scoring with a glancing header.
Just moments later, Theo Hernandez doubled the lead, scoring from close range to become Milan’s joint-highest scoring defender. The home side’s dominance was cemented before halftime, with Christian Pulisic netting Milan’s third goal after capitalizing on a deflected ball in the box.
In the 63rd minute, Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze was introduced as a substitute for Pulisic, making a 30-minute cameo appearance. While the game was already secured, Chukwueze displayed glimpses of his potential, though he continues to search for consistency since joining the Italian giants. With stiff competition from Christian Pulisic and Rafa Leao, Chukwueze is yet to fully establish himself as a regular starter.
Despite his relatively short time on the pitch, Milan fans will be hoping Chukwueze can find the form that made him such a threat during pre-season.
The only negative for AC Milan on the night came in the closing stages when defender Davide Bartesaghi was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Lecce’s Lameck Banda. Despite being reduced to 10 men, Milan comfortably saw out the match to claim all three points.
The win propels Milan to second place in the Serie A table, level on points with Torino as they continue their push for the top spot.
