Sevilla encounter Kelechi Iheanacho setback ahead of league opener

Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho might miss Sevilla’s La Liga opener against Las Palmas on Friday due to registration complications.

Iheanacho, who joined Sevilla this summer after a seven-year stint with Leicester City, is yet to be officially registered by the club. The striker, who joined Sevilla on a free transfer, is expected to make a significant impact given his experience with Manchester City and Leicester City.

During his unofficial debut last weekend, Iheanacho showcased some promising moments in Sevilla’s 4-1 loss to Liverpool. However, he may have to wait longer for his first competitive appearance for the club.

Registration Dilemma

Reports from Elgoldigital indicate that Sevilla has yet to complete Iheanacho’s registration for the upcoming La Liga season. The delay is due to the club’s failure to meet La Liga’s financial requirements for player registrations.

Sevilla currently has space to register only one of their two unregistered players, Iheanacho or midfielder Lucien Agoume. With the team already short in the midfield, Agoume is likely to be prioritized for registration.

To accommodate both players, Sevilla would need to sell a player to meet La Liga’s financial regulations. However, with only two days left before their season opener, this might not be feasible.

Despite the challenges, Sevilla is expected to resolve the issue and register all their players before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
