Solomon Agbalaka makes TotalEnergies U-20 AFCON Group Stage Best XI

Solomon Agbalaka has been included in the selected team for the TotalEnergies U-20 African Cup of Nations Egypt 2023 group stage best XI.

The Broad City defender and captain is the only Flying Eagles player in the team which is mostly made up of Senegal players following a perfect group stage outing from the Teranga Cubs.

Ladan Bosso will be happy that the team has a representative in Solomon Agbalaka in the selected team.

Top of the list is Senegalese young sensation Pape Diop who caught the eye of the TSG Group following his rich scoring form.

Diop was named Best Player of the group phase, having scored four goals in three matches making him the tournament’s top scorer so far.

His compatriot Landing Badji makes the list as the best goalkeeper with Gambian mentor Abdoulie Bojang recognised for his leadership and selected as the Best Coach of the phase after leading the Baby Scorpions to secure the maximum nine points in the group phase.

The tournament’s knock-out phase will be start on Thursday and Friday with the quarterfinals.

On Thursday, Senegal will be taking on Benin at the Cairo International Stadium following a perfect group stage result which makes them one of the competition favorites.

The second quarter-final game also on Thursday will see Uganda taking on Nigeria at Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia.

The Hippos of Uganda topped their group with one win and two draws, while Nigeria finished second in their group with two wins and a loss.

Both teams will be eager to secure their spot in the semi-finals, and fans can expect a fiercely contested match.

On Friday, Gambia and South Sudan will clash at Haras El Hodoud Stadium in Alexandria.

Gambia finished first in their group with three wins while South Sudan qualified for the knockout stages as one of the best third-placed teams.

The final fixture of the quarterfinals will see Congo take on Tunisia at Cairo International Stadium in Cairo.

Congo finished second in Group B with one win and two draws while Tunisia finished in Group C with one win and a draw.

All semi-finalists will qualify for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
