Nigerian-born midfielder Solomon Udo marked his return to national team football with a winning performance as Armenia secured their long-awaited first victory of 2024 in a 2-1 friendly win against Kazakhstan.
Midfielder Solomon Udo had been absent from the national team setup since his last appearance in the UEFA Nations League B in June 2022.
Aleksandr Marochkin gave Armenia the lead inside the first four minutes via an own goal before Vahan Bichakhchyan doubled the advantage in the 58th minute.
Udo came on for Artak Dashsyan in the 88th minute and helped Armenia stay compact in the middle.
The visitors were awarded a penalty late on in the game after the referee spotted a handball inside the 18-yard box. Bauyrzhan Islamkhan stepped up to score what eventually became a mere consolation for the visitors.
Kazakhstan failed to double the lead due to the compactness of the home side’s midfield as Armenia registered their first win in 2024. They had previously lost to Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Kosovo, Croatia and drawn against Wales.
