Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has heap praises on Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea who is on course to make his 400th appearances tonight against Southampton.

The Spaniard joined United in 2011 from Atletico Madrid as a replacement for legendary goalkeeper, Edwin Van Da Sar and has since established himself as one of the best shot stopper in the world.

Solskjaer praised De Gea during his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash with Southampton.

“He’s been fantastic, David, and since I’ve been here I’ve enjoyed working with him,” Ole told the club official website.

“He’s come out and said he wants to play many, many more games – maybe 10 more years! How long will he be able to stay at the top?

“That’s just up to him, because it’s a pleasure to watch him still being humble enough to work hard with Richard [Hartis] and Craig [Mawson] and the other goalkeepers around the place.

“Four hundred games – two more than Peter! He’s won the Premier League, he’s won the FA Cup, he’s won the Europa League, he’s won the League Cup, but that’s probably not enough for him.

“I don’t think he’ll be happy before he wins more trophies, because staying at Man United for so long and not having won more, I think that’s something that he will feel is a black dot in his career.

“Yes, he’s won those personal awards. I don’t think David’s the type who cares about personal awards. I think he wants the team to lift the big trophies.”

De Gea will become only the second United keeper after Alex Stepney to reach 400 appearances for the club against Southampton.

The Spaniard, 29, has won United’s player of the year prize four times, one more than Cristiano Ronaldo.

In his nine seasons at Old Trafford, United have won a single Premier League title, one FA Cup, an EFL Cup and a Europa League.

De Gea was on the bench for the 2017 Europa League final against Ajax as Sergio Romero was selected instead.
