The search for a new Super Eagles coach is still ongoing, but Sports Minister Senator John Owan Enoh has assured Nigerians that an announcement will be made soon. Finidi George resigned as Super Eagles coach after just two months in charge, leaving the team’s 2026 World Cup qualification hopes in jeopardy.
Speaking at a media parley in Abuja on Thursday, Enoh acknowledged the importance of finding a qualified coach to lead the Super Eagles. He revealed that he is engaging with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to ensure that a capable coach is appointed.
“The issue of the Super Eagles coach is a very technical issue. The search is still in progress, and when the time comes, the name will be known to Nigerians through the NFF,” Enoh said. “I have urged the NFF to get a good, capable coach who will, against all odds, get the country the tickets to the 2026 World Cup and the next African Nations Cup.”

Enoh emphasized the need for a coach who will restore Nigerian’s confidence in the team. He also revealed plans to renovate the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja to host Super Eagles games and CAF-organized competitions.
The minister’s assurance comes as a relief to Nigerian football fans who have been anxiously waiting for a new coach to be appointed. The Super Eagles’ poor performance under Finidi George had raised concerns about the team’s ability to qualify for the World Cup.
