Historically, delayed payments of allowances have been a recurring issue, with many athletes facing significant delays in receiving their due payments after notable performances, such as those at the 2023 All African Games hosted in Ghana. Despite these challenges, Nigeria achieved an impressive second-place finish at the competition.
During an interactive session with sports writers in Abuja, Minister Enoh emphasized the government’s commitment to timely payments. He highlighted that the Federal Government, under President Tinubu, has approved the budget for the 2024 Olympics without any deductions, reflecting the administration’s strong support for Nigerian sports.
“Thankfully, the Federal Government, without deducting a dime, approved the budget for the 2024 Olympics. This shows the passion President Tinubu has for Nigerian sports. To this end, we won’t owe any athletes a dime, and all monies due to them will be paid before they depart from Paris,” Enoh assured journalists.
With this commitment, Minister Enoh expressed optimism about surpassing Nigeria’s previous records at the Olympic Games in France.
