Sports presenter Gideon Iwueke emerges Enugu SWAN chairman

Sports presenter, Gideon Iwueke has been elected as the new Chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Enugu chapter.

The election which was conducted by the South East SWAN Vice President, Chigoize Chukwuka following the approval to go ahead with the election by the body’s national after series of postponements.

Gideon Iwueke of Radio Nigeria, Enugu defeated Nicolas Obisike of News Agency of Nigeria (NANS) with a total vote of 16 to be declared the winner of the election and the new chapter of SWAN in Enugu State.

Others who contested and won the election are: Jude Chinedu of The Sun Newspaper (Vice Chairman); Chinedu Adaonu of Vanguard Newspaper (Secretary); Chibuike Peters of Solid FM (Assistant Secretary – unopposed); while Chibuzor Nwoye of Sunrise FM (Treasurer – unopposed).

The 23 members of the state SWAN voted for their choice candidates in the election.

Gideon Iwueke, after been announced as the newly elected chairman said he will work alongside other sports journalists to make Enugu SWAN a success.

“I’m grateful to God for a day like this, because it has been a long battle and now we have succeeded in conducting a fair and credible election, which proved to be a successful one.

“I’m here to work with you all in other to make SWAN in Enugu a successful body, and I pray that with the support given to me today, that we are going to succeed,” Gideon said.

The Election was held at the Enugu State FA Office, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
