Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali shared the heartbreaking news of his father’s passing on social media late Thursday, just moments after playing a pivotal role in Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Benin in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 Qualifiers in Abidjan.
In a poignant Instagram story, the 27-year-old expressed his sorrow with a simple but powerful message: “RIP DAD.”

Stanley Nwabali, who plays for Chippa United, had just helped Nigeria secure a valuable point against Benin, keeping the Super Eagles unbeaten in Group D after Matchday 5. The Super Eagles initially fell behind when Tijani Mohammed’s header gave Benin the lead in the 16th minute. However, Victor Osimhen responded with a late header to level the score.
