The 2024 Paris Olympics will soon kickoff and confident Super Falcons midfielder Jennifer Echegini has issued a warning to Nigeria’s opponents, stating that the team is more than just physical strength and speed.
Echegini, who recently signed with PSG, believes that the team’s technical abilities are often underestimated, and she is confident that they will surprise their opponents with their skills.
Nigeria faces a tough group at the Olympics, drawn alongside powerhouses Japan, Brazil, and current world champions Spain.
Despite being the lowest-ranked team in the group, Echegini draws inspiration from the Super Falcons’ performance at the last FIFA Women’s World Cup, where they qualified from a difficult group without losing a game.

The midfielder emphasized that the team has a lot to offer beyond physical strength and speed, stating, “We’re not just that. We can also play.”
She expressed frustration at being stereotyped, saying, “Whenever I hear people talking about Nigeria, it’s always ‘strong’ or ‘fast’, and I’m like, ‘we’re not just that, you know?'”
Echegini’s comments reflect the team’s determination to prove themselves at the Olympics. With coach Randy Waldrum perfecting his tactics in camp, the Super Falcons are ready to make a statement in Paris. Although they have never won Olympic medals, Echegini’s confidence and skill suggest that this might be the year they change that.
