Super Falcons star Francisca Ordega responds to allegations regarding her Paris Olympics participation

Super Falcons winger Francesca Ordega has addressed rumors circulating on social media that she is being forced onto the senior national team by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Despite the Super Falcons’ roster for the Olympics build-up yet to be released, Ordega revealed in an Instagram live session that she felt compelled to speak with head coach Randy Waldrum regarding the allegations. According to Ordega, Waldrum firmly denied the rumors.

“I was so devastated when I read the report that I had to speak with the head coach, Randy Waldrum first before making any comment on it. We spoke at length and he denied the allegation,” Ordega said on Instagram live. “Journalists or social media influencers need to verify their information before putting it in the public space. Fake reports can dent people’s careers, and it is more reason information should be properly cross-checked before they are pushed out.”

Ordega emphasized that her consistent performance for Russian club CSKA Moscow and her contributions to the Falcons in the past should be the basis for any potential invitation to the national team, rather than the false narrative being spread online.

Currently, Ordega is the second-highest scorer in the Russian Women’s League, with six goals from 12 games. However, her last appearance for the Super Falcons was in 2023.

The incident highlights the need for accurate and responsible journalism, especially when it comes to the careers of athletes and the integrity of sports institutions.
