The Super Eagles Supporters Club on Saturday morning took their members to conduct the COVID-19 test in a government medical facility in Garoua as they prepare to cheer Nigeria to victory against Sudan.
Led by Prince Vincent Okumagba, the Super Eagles Supporters Club were on the stands last Tuesday against Egypt when Nigeria recorded a memorable win in their first game, with Leicester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho scoring the only goal in the first half.
Due to the worldwide pandemic, every spectator must undergo COVID-19 protocols to in other to gain access to the stadium.
Speaking exclusively to The Athletic NG in Garoua, the National Public Relations Officer, Olutoye Orishabiyi, said:
“We got the information that every spectator that needs access to the stadium must take the COVID-19 test and get himself vaccinated, that is why we had to take a walk from our hotel close to the stadium to take the test and confirm our status and all other COVID-19 protocol.”
On the club’s preparations to Support the Super Eagles this afternoon against Sudan, Orishabiyi stressed they are prepared and except noting but victory.
“We are well prepared and we believe that today will not be an exception from what we got in our last match.
“We are going to give them our maximum support. In fact, we are strategizing more and mobilising more Nigerians to give them the support they need in other to prepare them for today’s victory.
“It is a done deal that Nigeria will win. It is a pity that we cannot put down the points yet until the end of the game.
“It is very obvious that our supports from the stand pushes the team forward, when you see them playing at times, even when they lose the ball or they have advantage with the ball, when they look up, they see the crowd cheering them, they are always happy.
“During the second half (against Egypt), our goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, because we were behind him, he was gesturing to the crowd to cheer the team up and we responded. What else can we offer them than giving them that push and we are so delighted that he (Okoye) recognized this and that they are interested in what we are doing.”
With a morale boosting victory over the Pharoahs of Egypt last Tuesday, the Super Eagles will look to continue their impressive start to the tournament against Sudan on Saturday at the Roumde Adjia Stadium by 4pm.
A win against Sudan will ensure Nigeria join host nation Cameroon and Morocco to the next round of the competition.
