Taiwo Awoniyi reports for pre-season with Forest

Taiwo Awoniyi made a remarkable return from a six-week injury layoff, scoring a goal for Nottingham Forest in their 2-1 loss to Arsenal at City Ground.

Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has rejoined his Nottingham Forest teammates at their pre-season camp in Spain after a brief period on the sidelines due to injury.

Awoniyi, 26, has faced persistent injury challenges since his transfer from Union Berlin to Nottingham Forest two years ago. He missed 17 games two seasons ago and 18 games last season due to recurring groin injuries. These setbacks severely limited his playing time toward the end of the last campaign.

Over the summer, Awoniyi appeared to have regained full fitness, sharing images of himself engaging in training drills. However, he did not participate in Nottingham Forest’s first pre-season match against Chesterfield. Coach Nuno Espirito Santo later explained that Awoniyi’s absence was due to a minor injury.

Despite initial reports suggesting he might not join the pre-season camp in Spain, a recent video shared by Nottingham Forest confirmed Awoniyi’s presence at the camp. However, the club did not specify whether he is fully fit.

If Awoniyi has indeed recovered, he is expected to participate in the club’s remaining pre-season fixtures against Millwall, Elche, Villarreal, and Olympiacos.

Nottingham Forest will kick off their Premier League campaign with a home game against Bournemouth at the City Ground. Fans and teammates alike are hopeful that Awoniyi will be fully fit and ready to contribute to the team’s efforts in the upcoming season.
