Sudanese giants Al-Merrikh punished Enyimba 3-0 in Omdurman this afternoon in the CAF Champions League 1st leg round.
The Nigerian side were poor and it did not take long for the Sudanese side to punish the Peoples’ Elephant with top scorer Saif Terry scoring the opening goal in the 8th minute.
Terry, who scored in the preliminary round doubled the lead in the 44th minute before completing his hattrick in the 90th minute to condemn Enyimba to a first-leg defeat.
Terry’s three goals ensured he is the competition’s top scorer with four goals in three matches.
Enyimba who missed striker Victor Mbaoma now have a mountain to climb and will be hoping to overturn a 3-0 deficit in Aba during the second leg which will be played next year on January 5, 2021.
The winner of the two-legged fixture between Enyimba and Al-Merrikh will advance to the group stage of the CAF Champions League, while losers drop to the second-tier CAF Confederation Cup.
