U-17 WWCQ: Flamingos coach names what his girls must do to beat Burkina Faso

Head coach of the Nigeria U-17 Women’s national team, the Flamingos, Bankole Olowookere has named what his girls must do to beat Burkina Faso in their World Cup qualification clash on Saturday.

Nigeria’s Flamingos welcome Burkina Faso to the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja for the 2nd leg of their third qualifying round fixture this weekend.

The first leg ended 1-1, leaving the encounter perfectly poised for a decider on Saturday, May 18, 2024.

Ahead of the game, Nigeria’s Bankole Olowookere has urged his girls not to make the mistake that cost them victory in the first leg.

This time, Coach Olowookere is hoping the Flamingos will be clinical and get the goals to book a final qualifying round ticket.

He said: “We have one hurdle to cross before the final hurdle, and that is what we are thinking about. Yes, we know it would be either Senegal or Liberia in the final round, but we have to first get past the roadblock mounted by Burkina Faso.

“We threw away a lot of opportunities in the first leg. If we had converted those chances, we would be sleeping easy and thinking this was a formal match, but we did not. On Saturday, we must convert our chances and that can only be done by good presence of mind and focus.”

The winner of the Nigeria vs Burkina Faso clash will go on to face either Senegal or Liberia for one of Africa’s spots at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

In the last edition, the Bankole Olowookere tutored Flamingos finished in third place, a historic finish that left many stunned.

Meanwhile, Senegal defeated Liberia 3-1 in the first leg of their fixture in Dakar and look poised to be the team waiting in that final round vs Nigeria or Burkina Faso.
