Uefa License coach Eddy Dombarye interested in NPFL job

Former Arsenal Kyiv assistant coach, Eddy Lord Dombarye says he is interested in returning to the country with an “ambitious” Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL club.

The former Nigerian international was a household name with followers of the domestic league when he became one of the top scorers in the 1990s.

His exploits resonated even further when he moved abroad to join Polish side LKS Lodz, spending four seasons before moving to play in Serbia and Ukraine.

He is a double winner of both the WAFU Club Cup and now rested CAF Cup with Bendel Insurance in 1993 and 1994 respectively, speaking to The Athletic NG, Dombarye stated his desire to coach in the NPFL.

“I have been in Europe since 1998, I feel it’s time to return home, I want a club that is ambitious, a club that I can also learn and be creative.”

Dombraye who is a holder of the much-coveted after UEFA A Coaching Licence, last coached the youth side of Arsenal Kyiv in Ukraine before the club filed for bankruptcy last season. Due to his passion and dedication, Italian manager Fabrizio Ravanelli invited Eddy to join him in the first team of Arsenal kyiv but he was denied a contract due to politics in Ukraine.

“I am always open to challenges. I am still free to negotiate with any club that suites my ambitions, I have rejected offers in China and U17 job in Seychelles.”

He also stated money isn’t everything as some jobs are build to make you fail.

Eddy was one of the coaches shortlisted for the Akwa United and Heartland FC jobs but lost out to Coach John Obuh and Coach Fidelis Illechukwu.

“National team job doesn’t interest me, I want to go to the pitch daily, I want league football, not one month in competition and 3 to 4 months at home.”

Eddy, 40, says he intends to bring his vast experience of playing in Nigeria, Europe and coaching in Europe to improve the players and win titles if given the opportunity in the NPFL.

Clubs like Dakkada FC, El Kanemi Warriors, Jigawa Golden Stars and Bendel Insurance who are reportedly without a head coach may be interested in hiring the former international as preparations are in top gear ahead of the new season.
