Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Bayer Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface, has resumed training after spending the last two months on the treatment table due to an injury sustained on international duty in January 2024.
Boniface suffered the injury while with the Super Eagles camp ahead of the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, which ruled him out of the tournament and required surgery for correction.
After completing his rehabilitation, Boniface returned to training on Saturday morning and is expected to fully join the team’s training sessions next week.
Leverkusen provided an update on Boniface’s recovery via Instagram on Saturday, sharing photos of the striker participating in training drills. The Bundesliga outfit captioned the post: “A step-by-step journey! Good to see you on the pitch!”
Before his injury, Boniface had been in fine form in the German top flight, tallying 10 goals and seven assists. Leverkusen’s medical team has confirmed that the Nigerian international will be ready for competitive action by March 30th.
Bayer Leverkusen head coach, Xabi Alonso, expressed optimism about Boniface’s injury return date, stating that he has resumed running and other stretching exercises and is progressing well towards full recovery.
