Interim Head Coach Austin Eguavoen has reiterated that the Super Eagles of Nigeria will give their best against Sudan on Saturday.
Nigeria will play the second game of the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon against the Falcons of Jediane at the Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua, having won their opening match against seven-time champions Egypt on Tuesday.
Eguavoen who was appointed last month following the dismissal of Franco-German coach, Gernot Rohr, has been able to galvanize the players and have them focus on the task at hand while playing attacking football.
With three points already in the bag, Nigeria is a win away from qualifying to the next round and an opportunity to finish top of the group which will ensure they retain the Garoua environment that is fast becoming a familiar terrain to the Eagles.
Eguavoen assures journalists during the pre-match briefing on Friday that his players will not underrate Sudan and will take each game at a time.
“We saw the game between Sudan and Guinea Bissau on Tuesday and what I can assure you is that we will not be under-rating them. We are taking it one match at a time and will approach this game differently from how we set up against Egypt. We will throw in our very best.
“The boys know that any setback will put us in bad stead, so we talk to ourselves regularly. Our eyes are on our target. We are putting our feet on the ground. We don’t expect to lose steam after that performance against Egypt.
“We also don’t expect every game to be smooth, but we will try to win every game in this tournament.”
The 56-year-old has nearly all the players available for selection with only defender Chidozie Awaziem still missing through of injury.
Nigeria’s match with Sudan will kickoff at 4pm and Egypt will take on Guinea Bissau at the same venue by 6pm.
