Why I was omitted from the 2014 FIFA World Cup squad – Brown Ideye

Former Super Eagles and Aris of Greece hitman, Brown Ideye, has revealed reasons behind his omission from the 35 man preliminary list for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Speaking to award-winning sports journalist, George Essien via telephone interview on Comfort 95.1 FM, Ideye faulted his former agent for the omission.

“During my move from Dynamo Kyiv to West Brom, my agent didn’t want me to make that move, he said he had a better deal for me, and I told him the only place wanted to go was the English Premier League. This was before the 35 Man list for the World Cup came out, we started having arguing and I told him if you can’t do this for me, I will find another person.

“I told him we are done, that’s how I cut my affiliations with him and found someone else who succeeded to take me to West Brom.

“Two weeks after the list was out and my name wasn’t included, I wasn’t surprised because the rumours were coming. People said, oh Ideye wasn’t invited because he sacked his agent, the rumour came from a reliable source, it was someone very close to him. They told me my agent said Brown did this, I am going to punish him, I’m going to do this, but I know where to hold him.”

Bobby as he is fondly called formed a blockbuster partnership with Emmanuel Emenike to win the 2013 AFCON title in South Africa; he scored 10 goals in 37 matches for Dynamo Kiev in the 2013/2014 season, while also pushing for a move to the Premier League.

The 31-year old featured at the FIFA Confederation Cup and believes he was good enough to be in the squad after winning the 2013 AFCON.

On 18 July 2013, Ideye joined West Brom for 10 million pounds, then a club-record fee for the Club. He later returned to the national team football and last featured in the 2016 World Cup qualifiers against Zambia in Ndola.
