Super Eagles winger, Moses Simon has given reasons why Nigeria struggled under former Head Coach, Gernot Rohr.
Nigeria produced one of her best and complete performance in a long time during their 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon against Egypt last Tuesday in Garoua.
Answering questions during the team’s pre-match briefing ahead of the clash against Sudan’s Falcons of Jediane on Saturday, Simon says Eguavoen has given the players to freedom to display their talents.
“Of course, it was my best performance in the last two years,” Moses Simon told journalists.
“You know we changed the coach and, of course, the tactics. So every coach has his own mentality and how he impacts players.
“With the previous coach, I played on his instructions, but the current coach gives the freedom and allows us to bring our style of play at our clubs.”
Following the firing of Franco-German coach Gernot Rohr in December 2021, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) appointed Eguavoen as the Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser on an interim basis.
Nigeria had a tumultuous build-up to the tournament in which Rohr was dismissed after a poor World Cup qualifying run, with key plays (Victor Osimhen, Odion Ighalo and Emmanuel Dennis) missing from the AFCON squad for various reasons.
With a morale boosting victory over the Pharoahs of Egypt last Tuesday, the Super Eagles will look to continue their impressive start to the tournament against Sudan on Saturday at the Roumde Adjia Stadium by 4pm.
A win against Sudan will ensure Nigeria join host nation Cameroon and Morocco to the next round of the competition.
