Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has redeemed the promise of One Hundred Thousand dollars (N41,085,000 million) to players of Rivers United for their victory over Young Africans of Tanzania in the CAF TotalEnergies Champions League first preliminary round.
The Pride of Rivers completed a double over Young Africans last month to book their place in the first round of the CAF Champions League.
Moses Omoduemuke scored the winner in Dar es Salam before Uche Onwuasonaya who joined from Plateau United scored an 89th-minute winner in the second leg at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt to seal Rivers United’s progress.
Wike promised the team the sum of $100,000 to defeat Young Africans in the preliminary round which he has redeemed and has promised another $100,000 if the team beat Al Hilal and book a place in the money-spinning group stages of the CAF Champions League.
According to the Media Officer of the club, Mayuku Charles, the Sole Administrator of Rivers United, Barrister Chris Green made the presentation this evening (Thursday) during the team’s training session at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Rivers state.
Rivers United will host Al Hilal FC of Sudan on Sunday October 17 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Rivers State.
