Zimbabwe coach Michael Nees remains hopeful that the Warriors can turn their fortunes around in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. With crucial matches against the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Cheetahs of Benin scheduled for March, Nees is determined to get his team back on track.
Speaking to FARpost, Nees emphasized that it’s not too late for Zimbabwe to make a comeback in the qualifiers.
“Honestly, it’s not yet all lost in the World Cup qualifiers. We have to do everything to turn the situation around in our matches against Benin and Nigeria in March,” he said.
Nees also acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding player availability due to ongoing issues in December.
“We have three groups of players: those based outside of Africa, players in South Africa, and players here in Zimbabwe. We need to know when they will be available so we can plan effectively,” he added.

The coach stressed the importance of selecting match-fit players for the upcoming qualifiers. “When we select players, we need those who are match-fit, having played at least three or four league matches,” Nees noted, as Zimbabwe currently sits in last place in their qualification group.

The Warriors will need to work together to reverse their fortunes and secure a spot in the 2026 World Cup, they warriors are rock bottom of Group C with 2 points from 4 matches. Nees is confident that with the right planning and player availability, the team can turn their campaign around.
