Amunike rolls back the years on Osimhen’s discovery

Emmanuel Amunike has spilled it all out on how Napoli’s talisman and Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen was discovered years back.

The Nigeria national team assistant coach admitted that he almost missed the moment as he was occupied with handling of the main team when the striker and the rest of the team where in action.

He made this known in his interview with the CEO of Wakawaka Sports Extra, Kennedy Onwunali, in his new radio program on popular Radio Station in Imo State Global 101.9 FM, Sunday Sports Update, owned by Canaan Land Adoration Ministry Edy-work.

Amunike confessed he did not notice Osimhen but one of his assistants called his attention to the performance of the player who was picked from the street selling sachet water to the team by his managers.

The gold-winning coach with the Golden Eaglets said the first thing he noticed about Osimhen was that he does not like losing a game and had this fighting spirit that kept him going.

It will be recalled that Coach Emmanuel Amunike produced the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze and other great players who are making headlines in the world of football.

On his new challenge with Zesco in Zambia, Amunike said they are facing the new challenge with the best they have, believing that the team will make a great impression at the end of the season.

He revealed why he refused to attend the FIFA world cup dinner in Qatar after Nigeria lost to Ghana saying that as one of the coaches who could not help the National team to make it to the world cup, it will not be right to attend the dinner as a member of FIFA Technical Committee.

“As a Nigerian, I felt bad for soccer loving Nigerians who got disappointed that we lost to Ghana at our backyard. I did not think that the dinner mattered more than the world cup ticket we lost.”

“It was an emotional struggle for me but you know, life goes on and we must work hard to avoid the mistakes of the past and as well pray for better luck.”

Osimhen has been subject to host of interest from European giants this season following his sublime performance in leading Napoli’s Serie A title charge.

He is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after strikers following his fine form for Napoli and interested clubs will have to pay a significant fee to land him this summer.

Club president, Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed that the star striker is not for sale as the club prepares to offer him a new bumper deal.
