Nigerian superstar Victor Osimhen will work under Antonio Conte at Napoli following the Italian manager’s appointment on June 5, 2024.
Napoli have appointed Antonio Conte as their new head coach. Conte, who left Tottenham in March 2023, has signed a three-year contract with the Italian club.
Victor Osimhen has been heavily tipped with a move away from Napoli but it remains to be seen, if Conte can convince the African Player of the Year award holder to stay in Naples.
After putting pen to paper, former Chelsea and Tottenham manager, Antonio Conte expressed his excitement about the new role, stating, “Napoli is a place of global importance. I’m happy and excited to sit on the Azzurri bench. I will do my best for the growth of the team and the club. My commitment, together with that of my staff, will be total.”
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis praised the appointment, saying, “I am very proud that the new coach of Napoli is Antonio Conte. Antonio is a top coach, a leader, with whom I am sure the necessary refoundation will start after winning the Scudetto last year.”
Napoli finished 10th in Serie A this season and will not be playing in European competitions next season, just a year after winning the league for the first time in 33 years.
Francesco Calzona had been the interim coach since February but will now return to his role as the Slovakia national team head coach ahead of Euro 2024. The club had previously sacked Walter Mazzarri and Rudi Garcia earlier in the season.
