Kelechi Iheanacho confident of replacing Youssef En-Nesyri at Sevilla

Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho is set to join Sevilla FC after arriving in Spain on Tuesday to sign a contract with the club.

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has expressed his confidence in stepping into the shoes of Youssef En-Nesyri at Sevilla FC. Iheanacho recently penned a two-year deal with the seven-time UEFA Europa League champions, following the expiration of his contract with Leicester City.

In a recent interview, the Nigerian striker shared his excitement about joining the team and his readiness to make a significant impact for the club. “I feel very good and am happy to come to Sevilla and be a new Sevilla player. I am very happy to be here,” Iheanacho revealed via the club’s official website.

Iheanacho broke into the world football scene after his heroics at the U-17 World Cup in the UAE in 2013. He was the quintessential attacking midfielder for a triumphant Nigerian side, scoring and creating chances behind Isaac Promise and Taiwo Awoniyi, earning him the Golden Ball award. He signed with Manchester City after the competition and later moved to Leicester City, where he spent seven years.

When questioned about filling En-Nesyri’s void, the 27-year-old striker emphasized that he feels no pressure to replace the Moroccan star, who left the club for Fenerbahçe SK. “It feels good to be here. I have followed Sevilla and seen the games. I don’t feel pressure. En-Nesyri was a great striker who did a lot for the team. Now I am here, and what I want is to focus on the games and the team, continue improving every day, and make history on the pitch,” he continued.

His experience in the English Premier League and success with Leicester City make him an ideal candidate to lead Sevilla’s attack. Although Iheanacho did not feature in Sevilla’s clash against Fulham and might not be traveling with the rest of the squad to face Liverpool at Anfield Stadium, it is hoped that he will be fit to kick-start the 2024-25 La Liga campaign with their first clash against Las Palmas.

With Iheanacho on board, Sevilla fans can expect to see a more dynamic and attacking style of play. His ability to score goals and create chances for his teammates will be crucial in the team’s quest for success in the upcoming season.
