D’Tigress finalise roster for Paris 2024 Olympics

The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has announced the final 12-player roster for the women’s national basketball team, D’Tigress, ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics. Led by captain Amy Okonkwo, the team features a mix of experienced players and new talent.

The final roster was released on Tuesday, July 23, after the team’s pre-Olympics games in Germany. The selected players include Amy Okonkwo, Elizabeth Balogun, Nicole Enabosi, Promise Amukamara, Murjanatu Musa, Ifunaya Okoro, Pallas Kunayi, Blessing Ejiofor, Ezinne Kalu, Olaoluwatomi Taiwo, Lauren Ebo, and Adebola Adeyeye.

Four players – Solape Amusan, Rita Igbokwe, Christeen Iwuala, and Lucy Ibeh – were excluded from the final roster. Despite being part of the initial 16-player list, they did not make the cut for the final 12.

D’Tigress will face a tough challenge in Group B, with powerhouse teams Australia, Canada, and host nation France awaiting them. All three opposing teams are ranked in the top 7 of the FIBA world rankings, making it a daunting task for the Nigerian team.

However, with a strong team dynamic and determination to succeed, D’Tigress is ready to take on the world’s best at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The women’s basketball tournament will take place from July 26 to August 11, with D’Tigress facing Japan in their final pre-Olympics game on July 24.

The team’s performance in the pre-Olympics games in Germany has been a mixed bag, but they are hopeful of correcting their mistakes ahead of the competition. With the final roster announced, the team can now focus on their strategy and preparation for the Olympics.
