NFF Appoints Abdullahi Isa as Head Coach of Supersand Eagles e Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the appointment of Abdullahi Isa as the new Head Coach of the Supersand Eagles, the national beach soccer team. Isa, a former goalkeeper and assistant coach of the team, will be assisted by Christopher Kadiri and Bashar Samaila as Assistant Coach and Goalkeepers’ Trainer, respectively.

The Supersand Eagles are set to face Mauritania in the first leg of the 2024 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match on Saturday in Nouakchott. This marks Nigeria’s return to international competition after a five-year hiatus. The team will be led by experienced players like Victor Tale, Emeka Ogbonna, and Arome Isah, among others.
Isa’s appointment comes as a boost to the team, given his experience and familiarity with the players. His first task will be to lead the team to victory in the qualifying match, which will be officiated by a team from Egypt.
The return leg of the qualifying match is scheduled for Saturday, July 27, in Nigeria. The Supersand Eagles’ participation in the competition marks a significant milestone, following their withdrawal from international competitions after a disappointing performance at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Paraguay in 2019.
The NFF’s decision to appoint Isa and his assistants is a prove that the NFF is poises and committed to reviving beach soccer in Nigeria. Despite the team’s absence from international competitions, beach soccer enthusiasts, led by Mallam Mahmoud Hadejia, have kept the sport alive in Nigeria through the annual Nigeria Beach Soccer League and various tournaments.
