Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen and Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have made bold predictions for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with both stars tipping themselves to win the coveted Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
The 2023 AFCON MVP award stunned many when Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong claimed the title, beating out Africa’s top talents like Mohamed Salah, Ademola Lookman, and Sébastien Haller.
Troost-Ekong’s three goals and solid performances led Nigeria to their first AFCON final in ten years, making him the first defender since Cameroon’s Rigobert Song in 2002 to win the prestigious honor.

As preparations for the 2025 edition in Morocco intensify, Osimhen and Aubameyang are already eyeing the MVP crown.
Osimhen, African Footballer of the Year 2023 , confidently predicted, “Myself,” when asked who he thought would win the tournament’s top individual award.
Not to be outdone, Aubameyang, Gabon’s all-time leading scorer, responded with equal confidence, “If I’m there, I will be the player of the tournament. Write it down.”
The 2025 AFCON will mark Osimhen’s third tournament appearance, having previously won bronze in 2019 and silver in 2023.
