Why Fidelis Ilechukwu is not happy despite victory over Ikorodu city

Rangers International FC technical adviser, Fidelis Ilechukwu, stands out among the shortlisted nominees for the February LBA NPFL Coach/Player of the Month awards.

Despite securing a crucial 1-0 away win against Ikorodu city in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), Rangers International coach Fidelis Ilechukwu expressed disappointment and frustration.

The Flying Antelopes’ victory at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos, came courtesy of a solitary goal, but the triumph was marred by Kareem Ogunleye’s red card.

“The league is a marathon, and Kareem is a key player in our team. But he was careless to get that red card at a time we need him for our next crucial game against Remo Stars,” Ilechukwu lamented.

Ilechukwu revealed that Remo Stars’ coach was in attendance and was seen smiling after Ogunleye’s dismissal, adding to his concern.

Rangers International secured a hard fought 1:0 victory over ikorodu City in the rescheduled NPFL match day 3

“It’s so sad; I’m not happy even in victory because we have a crucial match ahead. It’s a difficult situation,” he said.

To address the situation, Ilechukwu announced that Ogunleye will face disciplinary action for his reckless behavior.

“I understand if the red card was a sacrifice, but this one could have been avoided. He will be punished for putting us in this difficult situation,” the coach declared.

Rangers’ next challenge comes against Remo Stars, and Ilechukwu recognizes the significance of the match.

With Ogunleye sidelined due to the red card, the team will need to adapt and find alternative strategies to secure vital points.

As reigning NPFL champions, Rangers are under pressure to perform.

Coach Ilechukwu’s frustration stems from the knowledge that Ogunleye’s suspension could jeopardize their title defense.

The team’s ability to overcome this setback will be crucial in their quest for successive NPFL titles.

The win temporarily propels Rangers up the NPFL standings, but the consequences of Ogunleye’s red card remain to be seen.
